The countdown has begun! New Zealand’s #1 radio network, The Edge, will launch its television channel at 4pm, on Friday June 27 on Freeview channel 11 and SKY channel 114.

The Edge is the #1 radio network in the country, with 454,400 people tuning in each week,* and took home Station of the Year, Broadcaster of the Year, and The Blackie at the recent NZ Radio Awards. On June 27, it will become the first fully integrated radio brand in New Zealand, living on radio, television, web, tablet, mobile and social media – everywhere the audience wants to watch, listen and engage.

The Edge Programme Director, Leon Wratt says viewers can expect The Edge TV to be a natural extension of what is already New Zealand’s biggest music entertainment brand.

“The Edge TV will play the hottest local and international music videos, screen specialist music and pop culture shows, and broadcast original video content filmed with our Edge radio hosts in our new onsite custom-built studio,” he says.

“We’re launching with several dedicated music shows. The Edge Mix and The Fat 40 will be appointment viewing for Edge fans, while The Music Lab and Hot Right Now will give viewers a weekly update on the latest music videos and pop culture news – all broadcast free-to-air and available online and on your favourite devices.”

The Edge TV will be the first local music channel available to watch LIVE on mobile phones, tablets and online at theedge.co.nz.

The Edge TV Content Manager, Ross Flahive, has a CV that includes The Edge radio station, and C4 music television channel. Ross returned to New Zealand from Dubai for the channel, and leads a team of combined TV and radio expertise, including Phoebe Spiers as Programmes Co-ordinator. He is excited by the way the new channel is shaping up.

“The Edge TV will offer fans a new dimension to The Edge experience,” he says.

“The Edge HQ is having a complete studio refit, setting up our team of TV content producers with the latest television tools. We’ll be able to generate content with the radio teams, and deliver it to the TV audience faster than ever before.

“This is a big step forward in the evolution of radio, for both listeners and clients, and it’s exciting for The Edge to be leading the way.”

The Edge radio station announce they are launching a TV channel

edgetv

MediaWorks announced today that, in a market first, top-rating radio brand The Edge will become a true multi-platform entertainment brand, launching its own television channel this year.

The Edge TV will broadcast on the Freeview and SKY platforms, and will be streamed LIVE at theedge.co.nz and on mobile.

The Edge Programme Director, Leon Wratt says The Edge TV will be “radio with pictures on steroids” and consolidate The Edge’s position as New Zealand’s biggest music entertainment brand.

“It’s been a dream for many years for The Edge to have a TV broadcast,” he says. “Just like the radio format, The Edge TV will play the hottest local and international music videos, and will also broadcast original video content generated by The Edge.

“It’s very exciting to be launching a new free-to-air music television channel that also lives on SKY and will be the first local music TV channel available on web and mobile. This multi-platform approach is the future of entertainment broadcasting and offers a completely unique integrated media buy for clients.”

Popular Edge hosts Jay-Jay Feeney, Mike Puru, Dom Harvey, Guy Williams, Sharyn Casey, Clint Roberts, and others will feature on The Edge TV.

MediaWorks Radio Group Programme Director, Andrew Szusterman, whose credits include launching C4 Music Television in 2003, and stints as Associate Director of Programming for MediaWorks TV and co-Executive Producer for The X Factor NZ, says the launch of The Edge TV will make The Edge New Zealand’s biggest cross-platform entertainment brand, with the potential to reach a million people every week across its radio, television and digital platforms.

“Last year we demonstrated what the combined power of MediaWorks’ radio, television and digital arms can achieve, with the huge success of The X Factor NZ. The launch of The Edge TV will create our first fully integrated radio brand.

“The Edge will live on radio, television, web, tablet, mobile and social media – everywhere our audience wants to be – generating outstanding entertainment experiences for listeners and viewers, plus unmatched opportunities for clients and sponsors.

“This is the future of Music Radio.”

New Zealand’s number one radio afternoon show* has a fresh new line up for 2014.

Kiwi comedian Guy Williams, winner of New Zealand’s most prestigious comedy accolade, the 2012 Billy T Award and familiar face from TV3’s Jono and Ben at Ten will join current Edge hosts Sharyn Casey and Clint Roberts weekdays from 3-7pm, forming a fresh new team as The Edge Afternoons with Guy, Sharyn & Clint.

“It has been my dream to work on The Edge radio station ever since last week when they told me I would be working on The Edge radio station. I’m super excited to make my dream a reality,” says Williams.
