MediaWorks’ highly anticipated breakfast show, Paul Henry is on the launch pad and set to blast off on Tuesday April 7 on RadioLIVE, TV3 and paulhenry.co.nz.

Host Paul Henry says: “I’ve got a date. A date where life will change forever in New Zealand. It’s Paul Henry, from 6am to 9am, five days a week, from April 7. Go!”

Paul Henry will integrate MediaWorks’ leading capabilities in radio, TV and digital, creating a unique product and a major shift in the delivery of news and entertainment in the New Zealand market.

“This show will change the face of mornings. It will be focused on news and entertainment. I won’t be compromising any of that for the platforms. This will be a conversation you can join at the beginning, or whenever you feel you want to, right through to 9 o’clock. You never have to leave it, because we’ll be there on any platform that works for you. Plus, I’m on it, and I will be myself, I’ll just be being me… fantastic,” Henry says.

Joining the show as sports presenter is Jim Kayes, who will be part of a line up that includes Hilary Barry and Perlina Lau.

Kayes has reported on nearly 200 All Blacks tests and covered four Rugby World Cups. After completing a degree in English and Politics, he started as a general reporter for the Waikato Times in 1992. His newspaper career continued until 2009, working as a police reporter then later a sports editor and senior rugby writer. Kayes joined TV3 in April 2009 and was named television sports news reporter of the year at the TP McLean sports journalism awards in 2011, principally for his coverage of that year’s Rugby World Cup. He is also a regular contributor to several radio shows and sports magazines.

MediaWorks Group Head of News, Mark Jennings says: “Jim, at heart, is a news man. He just happens to be covering rugby for us at the moment. People tuning into the show will soon find he has a wide general knowledge and an opinion on most things. He told me he lost most of the dinner table arguments to his older sisters but I suspect he has honed his skills since then. Of course, viewers and listeners will also get the benefit of his vast sporting knowledge and a few rugby scoops.”

MediaWorks is delighted to announce Hilary Barry and Perlina Lau will be brightening up mornings on the ground-breaking Paul Henry show. Award-winning 3News and RadioLIVE presenter Hilary will be the news anchor in a four-strong presenting line up that includes newcomer Perlina Lau as social media presenter.

One of 2015’s most highly anticipated programmes, Paul Henry is a new breakfast show broadcast on RadioLIVE and TV3, with a major digital and social media presence.

Hilary will continue to present the 3News bulletin with Mike McRoberts, broadcast 6-7pm weekdays on TV3 and RadioLIVE.

MediaWorks Group Head of News, Mark Jennings says: “Hilary is one of the most talented broadcasters in the country and it is time to see and hear more of her. She is a world-class newsreader; but she is also an astute observer of life and what makes New Zealand tick. Hilary’s personality and wry sense of humour makes her the perfect foil for Paul.

“While Hilary is a very familiar face, Perlina Lau will be new to many people. Perlina has worked behind the scenes at 3News but she is very talented in front of the camera too. Her understanding of social media will bring a new dimension to the morning programme and I think our viewers and listeners will really enjoy being able to interact with her. She will be their voice!”

Paul Henry gave Hilary her first job out of journalism school, hiring her in 1992 as sole charge journalist and local news reader for his radio station, Today FM. Since that time, Hilary and Paul have become two of the most popular and accomplished radio and television journalists in the country.

Hilary’s many career plaudits include being judged Best News or Current Affairs Presenter at the 2011 Aotearoa Film and Television Awards for 3News, and taking home the Best Newsreader award at the 2012 and 2014 Radio Awards for RadioLIVE. She won Best News Presenter in TV Guide’s Best on The Box award in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

She currently works both ends of the day, as weeknight 6pm anchor on 3News and RadioLIVE breakfast newsreader.

Perlina Lau has been part of the 3News team as a Director’s Assistant for the last two years. Perlina was a producer, co-creator and one of the stars of popular web series Flat3. She directed the social media engagement with the show on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, cultivating an impressive local and international following.

The Paul Henry show will broadcast weekdays 6am-9am on RadioLIVE and TV3. The premiere date will be announced in due course
