Today in history: London bombings in 2005

The 7 July 2005 London bombings (often referred to as 7/7) were a series of co-ordinated suicide attacks in London which targeted civilians using the public transport system during the morning rush hour.

Fifty-two people, as well as the four bombers, were killed in the attacks, and over 700 more were injured.

From memory, it was also the night of ‘Fight for Life’ which was being broadcast live on TV3.

Three pulled out of the live boxing coverage and took a feed straight from Sky News UK.

Here is a small portion of that (The quality is very low unfortunately):

I visited and stayed in Russell Square in 2008 and took this picture of the memorial:

Flashback Video: TVNZ7’s launch

Here is a video of TVNZ7’s launch in 2008.

The first show to be broadcast on the channel was “The Kingmaker’s Debate” hosted by Guyon Espiner.

The video shows countdown to launch, the beginning of the debate and highlights from the first “TVNZ News Now” bulletin which aired at 1pm.

Later in the week I’ll be posting a TVNZ7 montage including some bloopers so keep an eye out for that.
