SKY TV bringing back MTV Classic

SKY TV bringing back MTV Classic

Christmas has come early for SKY TV customers as the platform welcomes back MTV Classic after a two-year hiatus.

Launching on Friday 8 December at 10am, MTV Classic is a 24-hour music channel that brings you music and music-inspired entertainment from the 1980s to the 2000s, as well as vintage hits. The channel showcases iconic artists such as Madonna, Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Spice Girls, Queen, U2, Whitney Houston and Prince.

Two years ago MTV Classic and MTV Hits were merged to create the single channel: MTV Music. While MTV Music remains popular with SKY customers, it was clear some were missing the seminal hits and artists featured on MTV Classic.

Maria Barlow-Cooper, Head of Affiliate Channels, said: “We are thrilled with the performance of MTV Music, however our customer feedback and data told us that a 24/7 stand-alone music channel dedicated to everyone’s favourites was missed by our customers. With our partners at Viacom, we are stoked to be able to bring back MTV Classic to New Zealand. A fun, eclectic mix of all our favourite throw backs, just in time for the festive season.”

MTV Classic (SKY Channel 123 and 116) will launch on Friday 8 December at 10am.
