MediaWorks today announced major new developments that add significant capability to the Entertainment side of the business.
MediaWorks has signed Mark Richardson and Dominic Bowden to permanent roles, working across the company’s multi-platform assets.
Richardson is one of New Zealand’s leading sports-entertainment broadcasters, and is well-known to MediaWorks’ audiences as host of hit TV3 series The Block NZ. Bowden has played a major role in some of the company’s biggest projects, including The X Factor NZ and Dancing With The Stars NZ, and has previously worked as a MoreFM announcer.
Mark Richardson will continue to host The Crowd Goes Wild on Prime and will also continue as a cricket commentator for SKY Sport.
MediaWorks also announced it will launch a new digital-only entertainment brand, developed through a joint venture partnership with Rachel Glucina. The new brand will feature original, highly shareable local and international entertainment content and have a strong social media presence.
Group CEO, Mark Weldon says today’s announcements create new business opportunities.
“Dominic Bowden and Mark Richardson are very big broadcasting talents, specialists in the celebrity entertainment and sports entertainment areas, respectively. We have been talking with them both for some time about having bigger roles with MediaWorks and I am delighted to welcome them on board.
“I’m also very pleased to be developing a brand new digital-only brand with Rachel Glucina. Digital entertainment brands featuring snackable, shareable content (especially video) are the fastest growing part of the media landscape, and there is a gap in the NZ market in this area.
“The new brand will extend our digital footprint and complement our existing radio and TV brands, adding value for audiences and advertisers. Our goal is to be the go-to website for local and international entertainment content, and Rachel is the leading local player in this space, uniquely placed to create and manage this exciting new project.”
MediaWorks recently announced a number Joint Ventures, including New Zealand Events company MediaWorks Nine Live is a partnership between MediaWorks and Nine Live that is managed by Tracey Magan and will produce a range of live events featuring top international and local content.
