Home Broadcasting and Media NZME ‘not surprised’ by MediaWorks announcement

NZME have responded to this afternoon’s announcement from MediaWorks that Paul Henry will host a new cross-platform breakfast show on TV and radio.

Dean Buchanan, Managing Director NZME. Radio told Dan News the announcement came as no surprise.

“It is a dynamic time within media at the moment. The integration of NZME publishing and radio combined with our collaboration with TVNZ, means Mike Hosking and consequently Newstalk ZB and the New Zealand Herald are ‘the’ multi-medium news brands, so we’re not surprised with the move. It is a shame that it comes at the expense of Marcus Lush – he’s a well-respected, seasoned broadcaster.”

Paul Henry will hosta yet to be named breakfast show, which is designed to work equally well on television, radio and digital.

MediaWorks Group CEO Mark Weldon says: “This is a significant move for MediaWorks and a major shift in the delivery of news and entertainment in the New Zealand market.
