X Factor NZ audition dates announced…and they are soon!

The X Factor NZ will hit the road this October and November travelling to 13 locations throughout the country to find contestants for the second local version of this global television phenomenon.

A new addition to the Groups category this season will be bands.

Co-Executive Producer for The X Factor NZ John McDonald is excited about including musicians that form the framework of the New Zealand music industry.
“Last year we had so many people say to us, ‘Why can’t my band enter?’ Good news is, this year they can,” says McDonald.

“New Zealand is littered with great bands that play week in and week out on the pub circuit, school halls and small gigs, we think they’ve got as much right as anyone else to be discovered and end up with a record deal with Sony Music. We just want everyone to be included this year.”

Internationally, bands are included in a number of countries, so it’s nothing new to the The X Factor format.

Starting in Auckland on October 11, and finishing back in South Auckland on November 2, the pre-audition tour is the first stage of the The X Factor NZ process.

Contestants who are successful at the pre-auditions will then perform in front of the four judges and a LIVE televised audience.

Television personality Dominic Bowden returns as host for the second series and he can’t wait.

“Last year The X Factor NZ proved to everyone that Kiwis can produce world-class singers, now bands can join the party.”

I have really missed the show, the wonderful crew, judges and fans but most of all, the chance to showcase New Zealand talent – not Australian or American, but our voices, to give a platform to home grown Kiwi talent and I know once again we are going to uncover some incredible stars.”

Air New Zealand unveils first refurbished 777-200ER

The first of Air New Zealand’s refurbished Boeing 777-200ER aircraft will take to the skies this weekend signalling an ongoing evolution in the airline’s long haul customer experience.

Air New Zealand is progressively refitting its 777-200ER fleet bringing the on-board customer experience into line with the high level of inflight innovation and comfort already enjoyed on the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER and new 787-9 aircraft.

Air New Zealand has eight 777-200ERs which are progressively having their interiors completely stripped out and replaced as part of a $100 million fleet refurbishment project. ZK-OKA is the first to be completed and customers travelling on NZ135/NZ136 between Auckland and Brisbane this weekend will be the first to experience this top to tail transformation.

The refurbished aircraft features Air New Zealand’s new luxury leather Premium Economy seat which recently debuted on the airline’s 787-9 Dreamliner and nine rows of the award-winning Economy Skycouch product. The airline’s Business Premier lie-flat bed and Economy seat round out the inflight product offering. Also on board is a brand new Panasonic eX3 seatback inflight entertainment system with improved resolution and touch capabilities.

Air New Zealand Chief Marketing and Customer Officer Mike Tod says the refurbishment of the 777-200ER fleet is part of an ongoing programme of investment by the airline in its customer experience.

“From lounge upgrades in New Zealand and overseas to new aircraft, refurbished aircraft and enhanced digital experiences we are committed to reinvesting in the things our customers value,” says Mr Tod.

The remainder of the airline’s Boeing 777-200ER fleet is being progressively refurbished with the final aircraft scheduled to roll out of the hangar late next year.

Interact with The Block with new all ages app

MediaWorks and Kiwibank are taking viewer engagement to new levels when The Block NZ returns to TV3 on Tuesday night, with their innovative new game Block Out Live.

In a New Zealand first, Kiwibank and digital agency TELL have teamed up with TV3 to create a second screen experience for viewers. Block Out Live is an all-ages bingo-like game that plays on the drama and fun of The Block NZ. After registering at TV3.co.nz/theblocknz to play the game on their computer, phone or tablet, players are served up a game board of nine ‘blocks’ each labelled with an object or action that could take place in that night’s episode.

The game’s real-time functionality means players interact with the television show as it happens. As the drama unfolds, they can unlock the blocks on their game board by spotting the matching object or action in show. The first player to clear the game board each episode (by unlocking all nine squares) wins a $100 gift card. There are plenty of spot prizes, and the grand prize of an all new Honda Jazz.

Kiwibank has been a programme partner of The Block NZ since the top-rating series began in 2012. For season three, Kiwibank wanted to deepen the level of brand engagement with fans of the show, and worked with their creative agency Assignment Group and MediaWorks to create Block Out Live.

Kiwibank’s General Manager of Marketing, Nicky Ashton says “We’re thrilled to be launching Block Out Live and add another layer of excitement to The Block NZ. Kiwibank pride ourselves on being innovators and this is just another example of how we’re doing that. We think this game is a world first so it’s great that MediaWorks has shared our excitement and has allowed us access to in-show content which is key in bringing this game to life.”

The Block NZ viewers are particularly engaged and prefer to watch the programme LIVE, and the format offers many touch points and opportunities for fan involvement, with fans taking to Twitter and Facebook in droves to discuss the show as it unfolds on TV3. Block Out Live offers yet another opportunity for fans to share their viewing experience with fellow Block-a-holics.

MediaWorks TV Head of Integration, Alana O’Neill says: “We are very fortunate in having a group of programme partners who bring enormous creativity to their involvement in The Block NZ. Kiwibank are partners in the true sense of the word, and each season they’ve taken their involvement somewhere new and exciting for the audience.

“Now they have another way to engage with the show. Block Out Live is exactly the sort of thing our passionate Block-a-holics enjoy, and sits perfectly alongside products like RenoMate and Kiwibank Home Hunter that integrate so naturally into the programme. This is just one of many exciting activations our partners will be rolling out through the season.”

The Block NZ is produced by Eyeworks Television for TV3. The broadcast sponsor is Bunnings Warehouse, joined by programme partners Kiwibank, Honda and Wild Bean Cafe.

Launched in conjunction with Mercedes Benz, the pop-up channel will provide viewers with a ‘virtual front row’ experience of each designer showcase, with each show made available for viewing shortly after the live event at NZFW.

Trelise Cooper Radio launches for start of Fashion Week

New Zealand iconic fashion designer Dame Trelise Cooper has curated her very own radio station Trelise Cooper Radio on The Radio Network’s (TRN’s) iHeartRadio. Trelise Cooper Radio will launch on 25 August to coincide with the start of Fashion Week 2014.

Carolyn Luey, Head of iHeartRadio, is excited to offer another unique and exciting station made for the New Zealand public. iHeartRadio already has 20 million songs, 450,000 artists, and 1500 radio stations… but there is always room for new and exciting content.

“iHeartRadio is thrilled to help Trelise Cooper create her own station full of all her favourite artists and songs. Trelise has an eclectic range of music tastes, so listeners will be treated to a wide range of songs from artists such as Lorde, The Broods and Santigold, just to name a few,” she says.
