Jesse Mulligan has announced on air tonight that he is leaving TV ONE’s Seven Sharp at the end of this week. Mulligan has been a presenter on the programme since its inception in February 2013.
He says, “I’m sad but excited to announce that Seven Sharp and I will be going through a conscious uncoupling at the end of the week. Like Chris and Gwyneth we will remain friends, wish each other the best and try not to send each other drunken texts when we get lonely.
“Seriously, I’ve had a ridiculously good time making this show, but now it’s time to get back to my comedy roots. Hosting Best Bits has reminded me how much fun a live audience can be, and I leave Seven Sharp very confident that the brilliant Mike and Toni will continue taking the show from strength to strength.”
TVNZ’s Head of News and Current Affairs John Gillespie says Mulligan’s last show will be this week, on Thursday 17 April.
“Jesse has brought a unique brand of humour to Seven Sharp and will be missed by the team. The show has hit its stride this year, and we owe Jesse a debt of gratitude for helping us develop it to this point. We wish him well for the future,” Gillespie said.
Mulligan will continue to host Best Bits, Thursday nights on TV ONE at 9.30pm.
Seven Sharp will not be looking for a replacement for Mulligan on the presenting panel. Co-hosts Mike Hosking and Toni Street will remain at the helm, with a diverse team of reporters producing stories from all over New Zealand.
Seven Sharp screens weeknights at 7.00pm on TV ONE.
