Olympics boost sees Prime News leap to second spot in the ratings

Prime TV’s around the clock Olympic coverage has helped Prime News grab the silver medal on two occasions in the last week in the race for evening news viewers.

The bulletin, anchored by Eric Young usually rates behind both One News and 3 News with figures in the mid 200,000′s but rated as high as 422,000 last week.

Exposure like this is invaluable to a programme like Prime News in terms of visibility and familiarity with its possible audience.

August 4:
One News: 547,980
Prime News: 341,770
3 News: 314,090

August 5:
One News: 719,490
Prime News: 422,440
3 News: 326,720

In a statement to Dan News, Prime said they are very proud of the achievements across all aspects of the networks Olympic coverage.

“Prime has seen terrific increases in viewership across the board during the Olympics, not just with Prime News, and we are all very proud to be bringing such an unprecedented amount of coverage to New Zealanders.”

TV1 and TV3 should stop calling their 6pm entertainment shows the news and offer their viewers a proper news programme instead.
