Over the last half century, the residents of Weatherfield have celebrated 39 births, mourned the deaths of 114 characters, thrown confetti at 88 weddings and been served drinks by 51 barmaids.

In this countdown of Coronation Street’s 50 greatest moments, the cast, past and present, and the writers, producers and directors, tell us how these moments came to our screens.

The 50 moments have been chosen by a distinguished panel, including creator Tony Warren and long-serving actor William Roache (Ken Barlow), and voted for by the public.
