CNN Domestic hits 21 year ratings low

CNN has had its worst ratings since 1991, according to new figures.

The Huffington Post reports that CNN drew an average of just 319,000 total viewers and 129,000 viewers ages 25-54 in the second quarter.

That is a drop of 35% among total viewers and 41% in the 25-54 demographic compared to the same time last year.

Here are recent ‘head to head’ figures for some of CNN’s key programmes:

Wolf Blitzer (CNN): 477,000
MSNBC: 676,000
Fox News: 1,697,000
Headline News: 128,000

Anderson Cooper 360 (CNN): 348,000
MSNBC: 841,000
Fox News: 2,253,000
Headline News: 407,000

Piers Morgan Tonight (CNN): 398,000
MSNBC: 1,040,000
Fox News: 1,946,000
Headline News: 408,000
Call me old fashioned, but the drop in ratings may have something to do with segments like the one I’ve posted below. America already has a dumbed down news channel, it doesn’t need another:

New Zealand’s biggest GC fan?

Nineteen year old Jordan has been making videos since he was 15, but it was the idea of parodies of The G.C that really got the creativity flowing.

“After watching the first episode of the G.C, that’s when I thought hey it would be a good idea to do my own You Tube mini series. Lets be real, half the programme is filled with advertising or screen shots of the Gold Coast” Jordan told Dan News.

Jordan said as well as attracting a vocal fan base, he has also had some negative feedback but has the thick skin to deal with it.

“I have one particular Aunty who loves my GC video’s and went around telling people that I’m actually going to be on The GC but it was all for fun. My Mum & Dad are proud of me and what I am doing.”

Jordan said he spends hours on making the videos but that it’s all worth it when he hears of people being entertained by them. He is aiming for a career in acting and modelling.

Spinning chair concept from ‘The Voice’ to feature in new dating game show

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to use the spinning chair concept from ‘The Voice’ on a dating show?

Wonder no longer! Makers of the new Fox dating show ‘The Choice’ (I have no idea how they came up with such an amazing name) have used the same spinning chair idea on the show which has recently premiered on Fox in America.

Flashback Video: TVNZ7’s launch

Here is a video of TVNZ7’s launch in 2008.

The first show to be broadcast on the channel was “The Kingmaker’s Debate” hosted by Guyon Espiner.

The video shows countdown to launch, the beginning of the debate and highlights from the first “TVNZ News Now” bulletin which aired at 1pm.

Later in the week I’ll be posting a TVNZ7 montage including some bloopers so keep an eye out for that.
