The Science Of Summer and Winter on TVNZ 7

TVNZ 7’s new two-part special, The Science of Summer and Winter looks at the surprising science behind the seasons, tonight at 7.05pm.

Science of Summer handles everything from why it gets so hot, to how sunscreen works to the origins of the marshmallow in ancient Egypt and in Science of Winter viewers see, among many other things, why snowflakes are white, how igloos work and how salt de-ices roads.

This episode looks at summer – it’s the season of long, hot days spent lounging on a beach or splashing in the waves. It’s associated with relaxation and fun, but, in fact, there’s a lot of science behind the icons of summer.
