Gallery: 3 News relaunched
3 News launched its new look today.
Viewers of TV3′s Firstline were the first to see the changes early this morning.
The graphics were designed by the Australian company, Ink Project who have also worked on graphics for TVNZ in the past.
The graphics package took Ink about four months from conception to delivery.
3 News boss Mark Jennings said it was time for a change.
“We looked at international models and the design was most influenced by the fresh, clean look that the European News services are adopting.”
“Our previous graphics had served us well for more than three years, so it was time to update our style and look. We have also updated the background of our set and tweaked our theme music to give it a more contemporary feel.”
“The new look places 3 News alongside the world’s best news services in terms of presentation and well ahead of our local competitors” Jennings told Dan News.

can we download the music anyhow?
I really do dislike the new graphics, now having seen a full 6pm broadcast. I think Jennings is a bit confused when he talks about a “fresh, clean look”, as the previous design was much cleaner (and arguably fresher) despite being three years old. And the fake background is just tacky, misleading, and outright insincere (not a good look for a news show, heh).
Frustrating too that there’s still an ASB advertorial in the middle of each bulletin. And that Mike and Hillary still have to stand up to push the buttons on the big screen – don’t they have anyone in the control room?
The one thing I like are the weather moons. But I’m not sure that they’re enough to stop me begrudgingly wandering across to One News for the first time in years…
A refreshing change. Not perfectly designed, but I’ve been waiting for 3 News to revamp its image for years, and it’s a great improvement. I do wish they’d sort out the weather graphics though; they’re still dark and hard to read.
The rework of the theme sounds like the theme to Cops.
The graphics are pretty much a copy of ITV in the UK. Plus isn’t there a Kiwi company to do graphic design?
Definetly an improvement, Jennings is on the mark. I really like the flipping-foward Financial Slides.
I hope soem of the commenters earlier are not in the design industry! It is cleaner and better defined. Or are you watching on an analogue set?
They finally got rid of that puke-green colour. That colour choice was the worst. The new colours work well.
I love the new graphics they look much nicer now then what they wore, It is a big improvment.
I like the graphics better than ITV’s here in the UK
