Almost half of the total audience (46.5%) watching TV last night between 6-7pm were watching ONE News.
This compares to less than a quarter of the audience – only 24.1% of all viewers were watching 3 News according to figures released by TVNZ.

3 News maintains its stronghold over the 18-49 demographic year on year beating One News with a 29.7% share compared to their 29.1%.
Continuing to dominate the Auckland market, 3 News also maintains its lead year on year in the 18-49 Auckland Urban demographic, with a 27.6% share, compared to One News on a 22.6% share. 3 News is also winning in the all important One News demographic of 25-54 Auckland Urban – with a 26.5% share, compared to their 23.8%.
In the 18-39 Auckland Urban demographic 3 News saw a 4.5% increase year on year to a 29.3% share. One News had a solid decrease of 12.7% – down to a 17.8% share.
Nightline’s continued success in the ratings saw wins against Tonight in all key TV3 demographics as well as TV One’s all important 25-54 demographic.
In the crucial 25-54 demographic, Nightline is well ahead with a 5.6% increase to a 22.2% share – compared with Tonight’s whopping 19.9% decrease year on year to a 15.7% share.
In the 18-49 key TV3 demographic Nightline is sitting on a 22.5% share versus Tonight’s 13.5% share. In 18-49 Auckland urban Nightline is substantially ahead with a 21.1% share to Tonight’s 10.9%.

ONE News is on a roll with the end of month data for July showing TV ONE’s flagship news programme has increased viewers, ratings and share whereas rival 3 News has lost more than 65,000 viewers year on year.

Analysis of 18-49 year olds shows that 3 News has lost share in its own demographic for 6 of the 7 months of this year so far. ONE News is now neck and neck with TV3’s 6pm bulletin in that age group.
