TVNZ journalist appointed president of Aus/NZ Foreign Correspondents Assn

ONE News’ Australian correspondent, Steve Marshall has been elected as president of the Foreign Correspondents Association of Australia & South Pacific.

“Steve’s election is terrific recognition for a journalist who thrives on the difficult stories. He is pushing the boundaries of what a journalist should do in the field, with his ability to report, shoot and cut (tape-edit) his own stories. He is an asset to TVNZ and we hope he can gain much from his presidency”, says ONE News Editor Paul Patrick.

Marshall was elected to the position last Thursday at the FCA’s 2010 Annual General Meeting in Sydney where the membership elected a new board for its 25th year of incorporation.

Steve is an international and national award winning journalist from the Waikato who re-joined TVNZ as the Australia Correspondent in 2009 after six years with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. This included a four-year posting as a Foreign Correspondent based in Papua New Guinea for ABC TV and Radio services.

“It’s an honour to lead the FCA’s 160 members. With the help of my fellow board members, we are looking forward to a great year promoting the professional interests of foreign journalists based in Australia and the South Pacific. It’s rewarding to share with fellow correspondents and give back to the regions where so much of my foreign reporting has taken place”, says Steve Marshall.
