The North-Western Motorway has been closed westbound from the Rosebank and Patiki Road interchanges as Police and emergency services deal with a crash involving at least four cars and one fatality.

The crash occurred at 8.37pm and is causing considerable disruption.

Motorway signage is in place advising motorists to exit the motorway at Great North Road, Waterview.

Debris is blocking all lanes and the scene is expected to take some hours to clear.

Witnesses report seeing a vehicle traveling the wrong way in the westbound lanes before the crash. A further release will be made when more is known.

In the mean time motorists are asked to follow the directions on the overhead signs and to avoid the area if at all possible. People traveling towards the city are asked to take particular care when passing the scene – police wish to avoid collateral crashes caused by distracted drivers.
