TV3 has launched “3 News in Chinese” an online extension of 3news.co.nz
“This service will allow Chinese people who do not have english as a first language to engage in the national news agenda and secondly provide another flavour of news in China where the media is restricted” says 3news.co.nz chief editor James Murray.
“We want to provide a news service that is genuinely interesting to Chinese people, which is why, with a few exceptions, it is the chinese translators who choose which stories to translate” he said.
UK website guardian.co.uk launched a similar service last year but this was forced to close after the Chinese government closed their translation service provider.
