Pete Helliar joins 7 Days
Following Rove McManus’ very successful guest appearance on 7 Days, this week sees another Rove cast member joining the hit series; Pete Helliar teams up with Jeremy Corbett and co. on Friday, October 9th at 10pm on 3.
So was it Rove’s good word-of-mouth that convinced the hilarious Helliar to make the trip over the ditch? According to the Australian comedian, the decision to appear on 7 Days was actually much less complicated.
“It was pretty complicated,” Helliar explains with a devilish smirk. “They asked and then I said ‘sure, why not?’. True story, sounds made up I know, but every single word is the truth I swear.”
Really, was it really as simple as that? “Actually, I think I just said ‘sure’ and not ‘why not?’. But the rest is 100% true. I’m going to dine out on this story for years!”
As many 7 Days fans have noticed, Rove certainly loves to humiliate Jeremy Corbett, first on Jeremy’s MORE FM breakfast show and more recently on 7 Days. But can audiences expect the same from the little man’s Rove co-star?
“I don’t like to poke fun at Corbett… I mean, he is so tiny,” explains Helliar of Corbett who’s close to twice the size of Rove. “Personally I love it when he sits on that big armchair at the end of the show and tells a joke and his glasses are hilarious… I am thinking of the right Corbett aren’t I?”
But despite his insults towards the always professional Corbett, Rove still managed to be named 7 Days’ most valuable player, or MVP. Will Helliar live up to this benchmark?
“I expect to be even more valuable than Rove was,” Helliar says with an unremarkable confidence. “In fact, I expect to be offered the hosting gig by the end of the third segment… Sorry Ronnie, I mean Jeremy.”
Are Jeremy’s hosting days numbered? Find out when Pete Helliar guest stars in 7 Days on Friday, October 9th at 10pm on 3.

Jeremy’s hosting capabilities are shocking anyway. He’s improved slightly over the last few weeks, but the bad jokes which seem to be read off an autocue really bring down the show. I think Pete would make an excellent host, and in the words of Paul Henry, I think I’ll “start a group”! In fact he might make an interesting host. Would he cross the media ditch? Who knows!
