Home Broadcasting and Media 1XX pay tribute to the King of Pop

On Friday 26th June 2009 (NZ time) the world was shocked at the news of the sudden passing of Michael Jackson.

Starting Sunday 30th August, the day after what would have been his 51st birthday this year – local Bay Of Plenty stations Radio 1XX and Te Puke’s 92.9 Kiwi FM will be showcasing Michael Jackson – The Magic Of The Music.

The show is hosted by Radio 1XX’s afternoon announcer Mark Eagle and produced by Aaron Anderson and is a retrospective look at the musical legacy of “The King Of Pop”. From the beginnings with Jackson 5 and the disco era of The Jacksons, through his unprecedented solo career including the biggest selling album of all time and into the 90s and beyond.

Mixed in with the hits will be archival sound clips including a few US variety television show appearances by Michael Jackson and more, plus interviews with producers with insights to 3 of Michael Jackson’s big solo albums: “Off The Wall”, “Thriller” and “Bad” and a few other surprises.

The show’s producer Aaron Anderson says “We’re not going to dwell on the controversies of his death or the incidents surrounding all the court cases and allegations of child abuse – but instead look at the music – the part that made Michael Jackson the superstar he became and in some people’s minds still is, and one the greatest entertainers that ever lived”.

Michael Jackson – The Magic Of The Music will be broadcast on Sunday nights from 7pm – 8pm and run for 6 weeks from Sunday 30th August on Radio 1XX across the Eastern Bay Of Plenty on 90.5FM & 1242AM and 93.0FM at Ohope Beach and on 1XX’s sister station 92.9 Kiwi FM in Te Puke. The show can also be heard online streaming through the 1XX website for those outside the Bay Of Plenty region through www.1xx.co.nz .
