Alpha 96.1fm hits the airwaves

Christchurch’s latest radio station Alpha 96.1fm launches at noon today.
Students from the New Zealand Broadcasting School have been hard at work to come up with a station which is fresh, innovative and exactly what Christchurch needs.
“We’ve come up with an exciting mix of reggae, soft rock, alternative and dance rap, mixed up with interesting and entertaining material about the latest gadgets, newest internet crazes, culture guides and much, much more. There are so many artists who don’t get radio airplay even though their live gigs sell out in a flash. So we’re going to give them to you on Alpha 96.1fm,” says Holly Belcher the promotions manager.
You are also invited to our launch party on Saturday 25th April at Sol Square starting at 3pm. There will be great Christchurch Bands including the Dukes and lots of fun and entertainment.

Is there anyway to find out what is playing now? I often listen to alpha and love the songs but don’t know who they are by.

We’re looking at the technicalities of this and are hoping to add this in the future. As we are a startup station with a small budget, we are looking at the cost but we definitely are considering this feature.

Just keep doing it thats all I can say, I’ love to listen to The Rock or Radio Hauraki, but if I hear another Guns n Roses song like November rain, or Metallicas One, I will throw the radio out the window forever and ever and ever.
