Milne celebrates 25 years with Fair Go

One of TV ONE’s most famous faces celebrates 25 years on one of New Zealand’s longest running shows, Fair Go.

Kevin Milne first joined the show in 1984 against the advice of colleagues as there were fears the show might be replaced.

Now 25 years on, Fair Go is still going strong, and is still a heap of fun to work on.

“I look back on a quarter of century of Fair Go and thank my lucky stars I fell into it, it’s the perfect mixture of usefulness and fun”, says Milne.

Milne has covered countless consumer breaches and worked tirelessly for Kiwis who have been ripped off.

One of his favourite stories was from 2008 when Fair Go stopped a family from loosing their home on the West Coast.

“We got the local community trades people, in fact, wonderful trades people from all over the country, to literally rebuild their house. It was maybe the most wonderful response to any story I’ve been involved in,” he says.

Fair Go editor Graeme Muir says that 25 years in any industry is an achievement, but to do it in television shows that he has a desire to improve and change with the times.

“Kevin’s still hungry, still keen to knock on the doors of rat bags and put the consumer world to rights – he really cares,” Muir says.

Anthony Flannery, TVNZ’s Head of News and Current Affairs, says he is an inspiration for younger journalists.

“A quarter of a century with Fair Go has not tired Kevin, in fact he is more determined than ever to fight the good fight,” Flannery says.

For now he is celebrating this milestone, but soon there will be another reason for cake – turning 60.
